Starting Reception
Children usually start school in Reception in September of the school year in which they become five years old.
Our Published Admission Number (PAN) for Reception is 30 children each year.
As Brierley is a Cheshire East maintained school, all Reception applications are managed by Cheshire East Council.
Applications for children starting Reception in September 2027 open on 1 September 2026 and close on 15 January 2027. Applications should be made online through Cheshire East Council.

Helping Your Child Settle In
Starting school is the beginning of a wonderful adventure, and we work hard to make the transition as smooth and enjoyable as possible for both children and parents. Before your child starts school, we provide a range of opportunities for you and your child to become familiar with Brierley and the Reception team. These include:
Visits to school during the summer term
A welcome meeting for Reception parents and carers
Information sharing with your child's nursery or pre-school setting
A home visit from the Reception team, where possible
Opportunities to ask questions and discuss any concerns
A parent consultation meeting during the first half term
Our aim is for every child to walk through the doors on their first day feeling excited, confident and ready to learn.
Little Bears Nursery
Our Little Bears Nursery provides a happy, stimulating and caring environment for children aged three and above. Children can join Little Bears from the age of three, with funded childcare beginning from the term after their third birthday.

In-Year Admissions
Families can apply for a place at Brierley at any point during the school year.
Applications for in-year admissions are coordinated through Cheshire East Council.
If your child joins us during the school year, we will do everything possible to ensure they feel welcome, settled and happy from the very beginning.
Depending on your child's needs, we may offer:
Visits before their start date
A class buddy to help them settle in
Opportunities to meet key members of staff
Additional support during transition
Close communication between home and school
Every child is different, so we tailor our approach to help each child make a confident start.
Leaving Brierley
Sometimes families move away from the area or relocate for work and family reasons.
If your child is leaving Brierley, please let us know as soon as possible. We will work closely with your child's new school to ensure records and important information are transferred promptly, helping to make the transition as smooth as possible.
